Call for nominations for Executive Committee posts: Deadline 6 June
1. The following three members of the Executive Committee are coming to the end of their term: Adrian Moore (Oxford), Duncan Pritchard (Edinburgh) and Dudley Knowles (Glasgow). (The BPA Constitution prevents Dudley Knowles from standing for election again.) In addition, David Archard (Lancaster) has resigned from the Committee for personal reasons. Nominations are invited for candidates to fill these four positions.
2. Any full member, individual or corporate (philosophy departments or equivalent units, learned societies, and schools which teach philosophy), can nominate any full individual member to be a candidate for the positions. However, cannot vote in the election. If you wish to nominate someone who is not a full individual member then please urge them to apply for membership as soon as possible so that they can qualify as a nominee before the date for the close of nominations.
3. If more than four candidates are nominated, an election will be held.
4. If an election is held, all candidates will be invited to provide a short statement, which will be placed on the BPA web site to aid members in deciding how to cast their votes.
5. Nominations by full individual members require a proposer and seconder (who must also be a full member) and, of course, the consent of the individual nominated.
6. Nominations by corporate members do not require a seconder (being regarded as a nomination by a number of people) but do require the consent of the nominee.
7. The proposer and seconder – or the person nominating on behalf of a corporate member – should send their nominations to Hanne De Jaegher, at admin@bpa.ac.uk, to arrive no later than Friday 6 June 2008. Emails must come from the email address that we have on record as your contact email address.
8. The current members of the Executive Committee are listed here.
9. After 6 June, members will be informed that an election will be held (and the procedures for the election) or that the nominated individuals have been appointed unopposed to the Executive Committee.
10. In the event of an election, information will be sent by email to all those members for whom the Association has an email address and posted to all others. NB. Each member eligible to vote will be able to cast a maximum of four votes; i.e. they will be able to express a preference for each of the vacancies. The closing date for the receipt of votes will be advised but will be prior to the AGM (Aberdeen, Sunday 13 July). The election result will be announced to successful and unsuccessful candidates prior to the AGM, and to all other members at the AGM.
11. If you are unsure whether you are currently a member of the BPA, please email Hanne De Jaegher at admin@bpa.ac.uk and ask her to check our records.
